2024 is ending in a few hours...
A year that showed me the true meaning of grit and growth and why I feel blessed to have honed these muscles even more
Hey there friend,
As the year comes to a close, I think it's high time that I do this—look back, reflect, and piece together all the moments that made 2024 what it was. And let me tell you, it’s been one for the books. At first glance, this year felt tumultuous, full of twists and inner battles. But as I took time to really “audit” my life this year (funny how we sometimes forget to do that, right?), I realized just how much grace and growth this year carried. God truly worked through even the messiest of moments, weaving lessons, blessings, and a whole lot of unexpected magic into my journey.
Even as I write this in the comfort of my couch (a place I’ll surely miss next year—but more on that later), I find it both fascinating and bittersweet: the many things I've learned to let go of this year and the many things that have chosen to part with me too.
Not that you asked and because you are my *cough* *cough* friend, I am making you sit through this lengthy email recounting how my year was like.
The year began in chaos, but sometimes chaos brings clarity. My response? While I didn’t realize it then… I was running away. HA! Yes. Me! Running away from my own emotions. Anyways, I found myself traveling—seeking new perspectives, healing, and joy. I hopped between islands here in the Philippines, embracing the beauty of home, before venturing out to Thailand—my first trip outside the country! What a rush. Those travels reminded me that sometimes we need to step out of our comfort zones (and literal borders) to rediscover ourselves.
And of course, as soon as I came home … the emotions caught up, and I was once again in turmoil. No surprise. Stick around though because then...
June arrived! I celebrated my 28th birthday this year! And, in true self-growth fashion, I tried yoga for the first time. It wasn’t just a practice on the mat—it became a metaphor for my life and business. The lessons I learned about balance, breath, and being present have stayed with me, helping me navigate not just my goals but the inevitable challenges that came my way.
I also went back to church. Not a huge feat for anyone else, maybe, but for someone like me who hadn’t intentionally set foot in a church for years, it was monumental. I’ll never forget the homily—it was about how powerful God’s forgiveness is. That even if I haven’t looked up in years, He still forgives me and accepts me. The one caveat? I had to forgive myself—and those I blamed along the way. Tears were shed that day… but they were worth it, if you ask me.
It was the start of the immature parts of me finally being acknowledged—pieces of myself I saw reflected in the people I met in my travels. It was the beginning of realizing what I want to do with my 20s and learning how to be “me.” Or, remembering “me.”
This was the season of big wins and deep reflections. I bought new houses—no longer renting! I still can’t believe it sometimes—UN-FREAKING-BELIEVABLE!
God is good, even when things feel heavy.
This was also a quarter of humbling lessons: I lost a client, felt the blow to my expenses, and rode the rollercoaster from hero to zero. It tested my faith and resilience, but looking back, I see how much I grew. Kinda cool how, in just three months, I made a huge financial decision for my family—and then God was like… “no client for a while so you can focus on the important stuff, Mona.” And focus on the wrong things… did I. HAHAHAHAH!
Not very proud of that, but it’s funny to say now because I learned the hard way, and the universe made sure I did. This was a year of gaining clients, realizing I didn’t like the relationship, the work, or the environment—and then letting go. It felt like I was running out of options, to be honest. I needed my family. And they were there. Thankfully.
Yet another rude awakening for someone who’s been riding solo for a while.
Now, looking back, the good always outweighs the bad. It’s just about knowing where to look.
Gratitude is the real game-changer. When I paused to take it all in, I realized just how far I’ve come. The wins, the losses, the in-between—it’s all part of the beautiful chaos.
As the year wraps up, I’m learning one of the biggest lessons yet: sometimes, life isn’t about problem-solving. It’s about living. I’m gearing up for more travel, more joy, and more moments where I just let myself be. The challenges will always be there, but so will the grace, the laughter, and the magic—if we choose to see it.
Through it all, I’ve been blessed with incredible people — friends, colleagues, and connections who’ve supported, inspired, or simply shared a kind word when it was needed most.
As we head into the holiday season, my hope for you is simple: may you find time to rest, celebrate, and soak up the moments that matter most.
And as 2025 approaches, may it bring new adventures, unexpected joys, and the courage to embrace it all.
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and cheers to a wonderful New Year ahead!
With love and gratitude,
Me
Catching bouquets and climbing mountains does sound like you're "doing all right." (: Amazing!
